Postpartum Depression/Anxiety

Here are just a few postpartum psychological and physiological changes you may experience:

– sleep deprivation
– loss of many things such as freedom, old identity, control, body image, career, finances
– hormonal changes
– birth didn’t go as expected
– role transitions
– dreams and expectations
– relying on a support system
– insecurities about parenting
– physical healing from the delivery

These changes can be very difficult to adjust to. “Baby Blues” typical lasts no more than 2 weeks. If symptoms of anxiety or depression are not starting to decrease after 2 weeks, you may be experiencing a perinatal mood or anxiety disorder, commonly referred to postpartum depression.
